Exposed reinforcement

Concrete Spalling and Corrosion in RCC

Falling concrete and exposed steel are a safety question. Covering them with paint does not tell you how far the steel has corroded. CYOND can assess the area with a structural audit and, where needed, non-destructive testing.

  • Spalling means concrete has broken away, often around corroding steel
  • The risk depends on location, cover, and how much steel is left
  • Leakage can feed corrosion. Stopping the water is part of the assessment, not a substitute for it
  • This page is an explanation. It is not a structural certificate

What to book

Book an expert structural audit when concrete is breaking or steel is visible. Ask for non-destructive testing when the auditor needs material readings without breaking more concrete. If the trigger is a leak, book water leakage diagnosis as well and say so on the call.

FAQs

Is exposed reinforcement dangerous?

It can be, especially overhead, where pieces can fall. Danger depends on the member and the section loss. That is what the assessment is for. This page cannot judge a photo.
